A Fulton County inmate dug through the wall of one of the pod’s showers and attacked another inmate inside their cell.

Kavian Thomas, a current inmate at the Atlanta, Georgia jail, is accused of digging an opening through the shower to reach Derondney Russell, whose cell block shares a wall with the shower.

On May 17 at around 8:30 p.m., authorities found Russell suffering multiple stab wounds to his upper body and immediately transported him to medical for treatment.

According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, a shakedown was performed following the incident which then led to the discovery of numerous weapons. Among the weapons were makeshift shanks made from parts of the building infrastructure.

Kavian Thomas is currently facing pending criminal charges for his part in the attack on inmate Russell.
