On Monday, Thomas William Martel, 22, turned himself in to Chicago, Illinois, police after he was accused of torturing and killing cats inside of his residence.
Martel has been charged with two felony counts of animal torture and four felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.
Authorities say that he killed four tabby cats, all with the names Shelly or Shelby, on purpose.
Martel is said to have killed the four cats between June 4 to June 23. Documents show that he did so by drowning and squeezing two of them. Another cat he is said to have dismembered, and the fourth cat was discovered dead in Martel’s residence, inside of a plastic bag.
Sources have reported that the cat that was placed in the bag was microwaved.
In booking documents, Martel checked “yes” when asked about mental health issues.
Martel was granted bail under the conditions of being put on an electronic monitoring device and having no contact with animals for any reason.
He has no previous criminal convictions.
He’s a sick individual and he would have started harming or killing people next its a sick cycle ( sociopath in the making)
