Man Killed After Being Trapped Inside Car Wash

On Friday, a fatal accident occurred at a car wash in Escondido, California.

The 56-year-old man was exiting his 2014 Scion XB. He then got smashed between it and a part of machinery inside of the car wash.

“The preliminary investigation indicated that the man drove into the car wash. For an unknown reason, tried to exit his vehicle,” a police statement noted.

The vehicle is said to have plunged forward and left, trapping the man against a column. The column was used to hold the large rolling brushes when they’re not being utilized.

The incident caused an alarm to go off, and a customer, who was close by, contacted authorities.

Office managers were able to free the man from being pinned. Emergency crews performed CPR on him, and he was transported to a hospital. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The car wash is a 24-hour, automatic, self-service location. The driver controls what happens, going forward and stopping when lights and signs direct them to do so.

Authorities say that “it does not appear the car wash had been activated at the time of the collision.”
