On Friday, lawyers for mother, Stephanie Martinez, announced that they will be filing a lawsuit against KinderCare Child Care Center. This comes after the mom found her 2-year-old daughter abandoned and locked inside of the daycare, in Plantation, Florida, on Wednesday.
Martinez says that when she went to pick her child up, the lights in the center were off. She dialed 911 and stated that she could see her daughter through the glass door. She recorded her daughter, with her phone, as the child was alone in the darkness.
Documents note that the fire department had to be dispatched in order to pry the doors open. Although she didn’t need any medical treatment, her mother said that the toddler was “super-traumatized.”
An assistant to the director eventually arrived to center. She told authorities that she and another worker left the daycare around 6:20 p.m. A police report shows that the mother arrived 8 minutes after that.
The mother told authorities that she didn’t get a call telling her to come get her child.
Child Protective Services and Plantation police will continue to look into the matter.
