A mother in East Point, Georgia, was apprehended after an apartment fire broke out the day before Thanksgiving.

27-year-old Nicole Jackson was apprehended on Thanksgiving Day in relation to the death of one of her children and starting a horrific fire. Another child was hurt, as well.

It has been reported that Jackson admitted to killing one of the children, leaving one behind in the apartment, and starting the blaze.

The fire happened at Polaris East Point Apartments and spread to several units, leading to the evacuation of many residents. Authorities say that they discovered a 4-year-old girl dead in the upper apartment. Another young girl was transported to a medical facility with fire-related wounds.

Authorities say that the building is a total loss after the roof came down as the fire ensued.

As the holiday season approaches, multiple residents are now homeless. On Thanksgiving, many of them went back to the complex to see what they could salvage.

An investigation is continuing.
