A woman wanted for murdering a teen in Ennis 10 years ago was arrested in Mexico and extradited back to Texas.

Jennifer Puente,29, is being held in Ellis County Jail for the murder of 15 year old Moriah Gonzales.

In 2012 Puente was allegedly high off drugs when she stabbed and killed Gonzales. Puente’s boyfriend at the time Joe Alvarado then helped her burn and discard the body.

Authorities found Gonzales’s body on the side of a road. They then began an investigation and learned that she was last seen with Puente.

Officers received tips that Puente and Alvarado were hiding out at a Grand Prairie motel. When authorities got to the motel Alvarado was arrested and Puente managed to escape.

Alvarado was convicted for murder and tampering with evidence. He was sentenced to 34 years in prison for murder and 20 additional years for tampering with evidence.

In October 2022, authorities in Mexico notified the Texas Department of Public Safety about Puente’s arrest. She was later extradited back to Texas where she was booked into jail on February 10,2023.

Puente has been charged with murder, tampering with evidence/ human remains in connection with the death of 15 year old Moriah Gonzales. If convicted she faces 5 to 99 years in prison for murder and 2 to 20 years in prison for tampering with evidence.
