Officer Involved Shooting Takes Place As Suspects Attempt To Steal Multiple Vehicles In Midlothian
An officer involved shooting happened on Friday, May 17, 2024, in Midlothian, Texas. Following the incident, the city’s police department has released a statement.
It noted that at about 3:47 a.m., NEED Communications Center was alerted by a Midlothian officer that he had been investigating a car theft that had been in progress. This had been taking place at the Mid-Texas Auto Park.
As the officer was trying to intervene and stop other cars from being stolen, he discharged his duty weapon. One car was able to get away as Midlothian police officers went after the stolen vehicle. The officer experienced minor wounds during the occurrence but was treated and released from a medical facility.
As department guidelines state, the officer involved will be put on administrative leave pending the results of an internal investigation. Because the officer fired his duty weapon during the incident, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office will perform a complete investigation. The agency will also determine whether there are any charges connected to the suspect’s behavior towards the officer involved.
The attempted theft and damage of several cars from the Mid-Texas Auto Park in Midlothian will be investigated by the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force.
The Ellis County Sheriff’s Office will provide more information as it becomes available.
