Lifeguards in the southern part of California are bringing in the big bucks.

In 2021, Los Angeles County, California, paid their top lifeguard $510, 283.

Government records show that about half of that amount came from working overtime at the Pacific Ocean.

Another lifeguard was noted to have made $463, 517, in 2021. This was comprised of $142,000 in benefits and over $78,000 in other pay.

Additionally, over 90 lifeguards made more than $200,000, and 20 of them made more than $300,000.

Out of the highest 20 top paid earners, only two were women.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department says that their workers are, “one of the top ocean lifeguarding agencies in the world.”

Lifeguards work year-round and are eligible to retire at 55 with 79% of their earnings.
