Owner of World’s Oldest Dog Shares Secrets to a Long Happy Life

613views

A Chihuahua from Florida has become the “oldest living dog in the world,” according to Guinness World Records.

TobyKeith celebrated his 21st birthday on January 9 and was officially given the record title on March 16.

Gisela Shore adopted TobyKeith as a puppy in Greenacres, Florida, and has spent over two decades with him by her side.

The average lifespan of a Chihuahua is 12 to 18 years, but TobyKeith surpassed those numbers.

Shore claims the secret to her dog’s long life is regular exercise, healthy genetics, and a diet of vegetables, rice, and chicken. But most importantly, a happy dog needs a loving home.

TobyKeith does have a heart condition but is still in overall great health.

Throughout the day, he ventures outside for short walks and also spends time playing with his siblings, two dogs, and two birds: Luna, a 7-year-old American bulldog, Lalam, a 3-year-old Chinese crested, Coco, a 28-year-old umbrella cockatoo, and Coqui, a 32-year-old African grey.

Shore has fostered over 150 dogs and puppies from Peggy Adams Animal Rescue. The same shelter where she first met TobyKeith as a puppy.
