On January 8, pregnant 31-year-old Kyla O’Neal was shot and killed inside of a vehicle at an Amazon Fulfillment Center in Lakeville, Minnesota. That evening, she was declared deceased at a medical facility.
Police say that workers at Hennepin County Medical Center delivered the nearly full-term newborn who survived, later that evening.
Authorities say that Donte Rapheal McCrary, 32, has been named as the individual involved in the matter. He was placed in the Dakota County Jail on second-degree manslaughter. McCary is said to have had “employment affiliation with the Amazon facility where the incident occurred,” documents note.
It is also said that O’Neal and McCrary already had one child together. The mother now leaves behind four children in total.
Amazon has stated that they are cooperating with authorities as an investigation continues.
No motive has been released in the matter.
