Suspect Pleads Guilty To Flying Drone That Contained Marijuana and Other Contraband To Prison
On Thursday, John Travis Ross, 34, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, pleaded guilty to flying a drone that was transporting marijuana and other contraband. The items were being carried to the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility.
Reports state that Ross plead guilty to possession with the intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana.
Documents note that the drone contained 60 grams of marijuana, lighters, a cell phone, and different cell phone cables. The drone went over a fence and onto the property of the CMCF on August 6, 2020.
Officials say that the occurrence was seen on surveillance footage. However, guards knew about the incident when the drone got stuck in the security nets.
Mississippi Department of Corrections utilized their technology to track where the drone had come from. This resulted in the suspect being located.
Ross already had felony convictions for burglary of a building and the sale of methamphetamine.
On August 4, 2022, Ross will receive his sentence. He could get up to five years in prison.
