Relatives of 33-year-old Ismael Reyes, of Baytown, Texas, are trying to determine why police in Louisiana fatally shot him one month ago.

Family members say that Reyes was a loveable, father of two. To add, he was an electrician and had been in Louisiana working when he was killed on November 19. They added that authorities never called them to tell them Reyes had been killed, but they found out when another family member in Louisiana had informed them.

Then, on Nov. 20, the Louisiana State Police provided a statement through a press release. It documented that they had received information about a weapon being discharged close to a business on Ruth St. in Sulphur. Officers then found a silver car, matching the description given, and followed it. Upon driving up to the vehicle, the officer had seen subjects standing around the car. As an interaction had taken place, a subject had been shot and was taken to a medical facility. He was later declared deceased, the statement noted.

“We didn’t even get a phone call. They didn’t even call his wife, his mom. They didn’t call,” said Josue Reyes, Ismael’s brother.

“The police, usually when somebody is wrong, they go crazy with social media. They go crazy letting everyone know that person was wrong. So far, we haven’t heard one news story about my brother,” he added.

For now, there have been no updates.

On Tuesday, the Louisiana State Police said that they are still reviewing the matter and collecting evidence. When they have more information, it will be released, they stated.

“We just want to know what’s going on. What happened? What happened before, during, and after?” Josue questioned.
