Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene Following ‘Fake Eyelashes’ Insult During House Oversight Hearing
On Friday night, Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) stated that she was unclear if she could call Representative Marjorie Taylor Green’s (R-Ga.) actions “a low.” This was in regards to a disagreement between the two that happened as a House Oversight hearing took place. Crockett made the statement in response to whether the days of ex first lady Michelle Obama’s “When they go low, we go high,” era is over.
“I don’t know that we can even call this a low. I mean she goes to hell, and then I do my best to remind her as to why she should not cross me,” Crockett responded.
The eruption between Crockett and Greene happened on Thursday evening during the House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing. Greene made a statement on Crockett’s appearance, saying the Texas Democrat had “fake eyelashes.”
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed her sentiments, defending Crockett and stating that Greene’s comments must be taken down, saying they were “absolutely unacceptable.”
After Greene made those statements about Crockett’s appearance, Crockett responded by saying, “If someone on this committee then starts talking about somebody’s bleach blonde bad built butch body that would not be engaging in personalities, correct,?”
Following this, the hectic situation continued with two lawmakers disagreeing and involving other lawmakers throughout the evening.
After the hearing, Crockett said that Greene’s statement on her physical appearance is “absolutely” racist.
“She is racist. I mean, I don’t have any questions about that. Because, I mean, I don’t know that she’s ever attacked her own colleagues,” Crockett said.
“Pardon me if I don’t talk as nicely as some people would like to hear,” Greene said on a social media post, later addressing the incident.
On Friday evening, Ocasio-Cortez talked about the incident, as well, stating that Greene’s comments definitely had racial undertones.
