Thousands of inmates will be transferred out of federal prisons this week due to a law signed 3 years ago.
The law was signed by former President Donald Trump in 2018 with regards to affect prisoners time being served. It allows eligible inmates to earn between 10 and 15 days of credits for every 30 days that they participate in Evidence Based Recidivism Reduction Programs and Productive Activities. Up to 12 months worth of credits can be used towards their supervised release.
While the transfers are expected to proceed this week, it’s still unclear how many prisoners will be released. The department would only announce that “thousands” of inmates are being affected.
