Three people have been apprehended and charged in the death of Emily Rodriguez-Avila, 16, from Liberty County, Texas.

Kevin Rivera-Ortiz, 19, Katherine Alvarez-Flores, 20, and Joel Garcia Martinez, 20, have been charged with murder. Rivera-Ortiz was said to be Emily’s former boyfriend.

Alvarez-Flores faces an additional charge of tampering. She had been apprehended a couple of days ago. Rivera-Ortiz and Garcia-Martinez were arrested on Tuesday. All three were transported to the Liberty County Jail.

On Sept. 4, Rodriguez-Avila was discovered deceased after she sent her family a message, stating that she was getting a ride from friends after work. Her body was discovered dumped on the side of a country road, east of Plum Grove. This was about an hour away from her place of employment at Niko Niko’s.

She was still wearing her work uniform when she was found.

On Wednesday, Rodriguez-Avila’s relatives held a fundraiser to assist with her funeral expenses so that she can be buried in Honduras, where she is from.

Detectives are still working the case, trying to figure out a motive for the killing.
