A woman in Dayton Beach, Florida, is said to have killed her roommate.

Nichole Maks, 35, has been charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

Documents note that on July 1, an officer was flagged down because of a fire at 622 Clark St.

Then, 79-year-old Michael Cerasoli was discovered inside the residence with several stab wounds to his torso and blunt force trauma to the back of his head.

Investigators found a bloodied knife close to Cerasoli’s body, inside of his bedroom. They say that two cell phones were found in his room: his and Maks. The landlord disclosed that the two had been roommates.

The following morning, police located Maks who dropped a knife and hammer when they approached her. Her leg was said to have blood on it.

At first, Maks said that she was homeless and changed her story several times in relation to Cerasoli’s death. Later, she confessed that the two had been roommates.

After being questioned over and over again, Maks stopped answering questions.

When she was informed that detectives were going to take her DNA, she asked for a drink and was given a Diet Mountain Dew.

Authorities say that Maks then poured the soda throughout her hair and body “in an attempt to interfere with the possible evidence on her body,” documents read.

DNA testing later found that the victim’s DNA was on the blade of the knife discovered next to his body, and Maks’ DNA was on the handle of the knife.

Maks is being held in jail without bond.
