A 26 year old woman died over the weekend after being bitten by a shark while swimming with her five year old daughter in Mexico.
The accident happened Saturday off the beach town of Melaque while Maria Fernandez Martinez was swimming with her daughter towards a floating play platform. The platform is said to be about 75ft from shore.
According to reports, Martinez was trying to put her daughter on the play platform when she was viciously attacked by a shark.
First responders worked quickly to try and provide medical assistance but were unable to save Martinez. She died at the scene. Her daughter was not injured during the attack.
Authorities have since closed the beaches as a precautionary.
