A young mother was accidentally shot and killed on Saturday evening as a family sat in a vehicle. The incident occurred outside of a store in Dolton, Illinois.
A 3-year-old boy located the gun while sitting in a car seat in the backseat. He started to play with it and discharged the weapon, striking his mother, Dejah Bennett, 22, in the neck.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that Bennett passed away a short time after that.
The child’s father confessed to owning the gun and was arrested. Authorities say that he may be facing gun charges.
Additionally, detectives performed a forensic interview with the child. A specialist questioned him, and the 3-year-old confirmed that he is the one who shot the weapon.
