50 People Arrested, Over 200 Kilos Of Cocaine Found In South Texas Drug Bust

South Texas experienced one of the largest drug busts in the last few years. 50 people were apprehended on Tuesday, reports say.

The bust occurred in Houston and Galveston. The suspects are accused of drug trafficking and other activities related to it.

Documents show that offenses happened between Dec.10, 2020, and Dec.15, 2021. It details the suspects involvement in fentanyl, cocaine, meth, heroin, and marijuana transactions. Some of the individuals also schemed to commit money laundering. This was done by illegally transferring or taking money from the U.S. to Mexico to help illegal drug smuggling practices.

More than 150 kilograms of cocaine, 140 kilograms of meth, close to 18 kilograms of heroin and fentanyl, and over 500 kilograms of marijuana were confiscated.

On Tuesday, when another operation was performed, authorities discovered more than 100 kilograms total of cocaine, fentanyl and marijuana. 39 guns were also recovered.

If found guilty, some of the suspects could receive life in federal prison and be forced to pay thousands of dollars in restitution.
