Olivia Caraballo, who was 4 years old when she was badly burned by what was said to be a hot chicken McNugget, has been awarded $800,000 in damages.
In May, a jury’s verdict was split in the lawsuit, placing fault on McDonald’s and the franchise owner for the child getting burned when she went to a McDonald’s restaurant in Ft. Laurdale, Florida, in 2019.
After closing arguments were delivered on Wednesday, it took the jury two hours to come up with how much the family should be awarded for Olivia’s pain and suffering. That’s when they came up with $800,000.
The lawsuit claimed that Olivia suffered second-degree burns from the McNuggets that had been in her Happy Meal.
One of the nuggets got stuck in the child’s car seat, leading to it burning her leg.
Although the family had been seeking $15 million, their attorneys feel as though the judgement was still fair.
CPS should fine you for feeding your kids McDonald’s. Grown up.
