Former Texas Dentist Given 5 Years Probation After Botched Surgery On 4-Year-Old Girl

Bethaniel Jefferson, an ex-Houston area dentist, was sentenced to five years probation after a botched surgery that transformed a young child’s life seven years ago.

Jefferson had been convicted of recklessly causing serious bodily injury to a child by omission. This was related to the January 2016 operation that left Naveah Hall, who was 4, with permanent brain damage.

Hall, who is now 11, is no longer able to see, speak, walk, or eat by herself. This comes after she experienced drug-induced seizures and oxygen deprivation during the procedure.

Last year, Hall’s family was awarded $95.5 million settlement as a result of a civil suit that determined that Jefferson was liable. However, it was reported that the family hasn’t gotten the money because Jefferson doesn’t have the money to pay them anymore.

In 2016, Jefferson’s medical license was revoked.
