Jussie Smollett Transferred From Psych Ward

Jussie Smollett’s brother was outraged as he said that Jussie was being held in a psych ward.

Smollett, 39, was sentenced to five months in jail for setting up a false hate crime incident. He is in the Cook County Jail, in Chicago, and was placed in a psych ward because of a mess up with paperwork, his brother said.

“What’s very concerning is that there was a note attached to the paperwork…that he is at risk of self-harm,” Jocqui Smollett stated.

“…I want people to know that he is very strong. He is very healthy…This is not right! This is a complete lack of justice. It’s angering. It’s an outrage,” his brother continued.

Officials said last week that Smollett would be held in protective custody. They say the reason that he was in the ward was because it is one of the places in the jail where high-profile inmates stay.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office reiterated that Smollett wasn’t in solitary confinement. He was allowed time out of his cell and could use the phone, watch t.v., and communicated with staff.

In 2019, Smollett had claimed that he was attacked racially and in a homophobic-style way in downtown Chicago. It was later determined that he had gotten two brothers to stage the attack because he didn’t like how much he was making on “Empire.”

Smollett was later found guilty on five counts of felony disorderly conduct.

He has now been moved to his own cell with his brother believing that public pressure has caused the switch.
