A wanted man is dead after he opened fire on a police officer following a foot chase on January 31.
The incident occurred when an on duty officers spotted a wanted man sitting inside a parked car at Mission Fairways apartment complex on the 800 block of Interstate 30.
When the officer went to approach the suspect he got out of the car and took off on foot.
The man then stopped pulled out a handgun and opened fire at the officer.
The officer returned fire striking the suspect.
He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The officer was not injured and was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
The suspect was later identified as Joseph Wayne Butler of Wichita Falls.
