Edward McKissic, a 38 year-old from Chicago, got very upset with 35 year-old Meshach Richardson.
While playing cards at a South Side hookah lounge in Auburn Gresham, Richardson apparently spit too much. McKissic got so upset that he followed Richardson outside as he took a smoke break and shot him several times.
Richardson sustained 17 gunshot wounds.
When security guards walked outside, they found McKissic standing there pointing a gun at them. A customer, with a handgun license, then observed what was going on and shot McKissic once in the arm. McKissic then ran off with the customer chasing after him.
McKissic was apprehended down the street from the lounge. He was taken to a medical facility for treatment.
In 2003, McKissic was sentenced to probation for aggravated unauthorized use of a weapon. His attorney said that the recent incident was a result of self-defense.
In court, he claimed that he was about to be robbed. Ultimately, the judge denied his bail.
