In October 2022, authorities began investigating the case of an unresponsive child who was 6 years old, in Greer, South Carolina. His parents had disclosed to authorities that the boy had fallen out of a chair, struck his head, and had a seizure.

The child had been transported to a medical facility and died later that day.

Now, the parents of the child have been charged in relation to the boy’s death after five months since the incident first occurred.

After a search of the family’s residence, it was found to be filthy. Investigators also found out that child abuse had been reported to the South Carolina Department of Social Services prior to that. An autopsy report showed that the boy had wounds in different stages of healing, as well.

When toxicology reports came back, it was revealed that the child passed away after overdosing on Benadryl. This medication is an antihistamine that leads to drowsiness. Detectives say that the boy, who was only 45 pounds, had such a great amount of the medicine in his system that it could have even killed an adult male.

The boy’s mother, 32-year-old Elizabeth Stewart, confessed that she administered Benadryl to her son because he was “hyperactive.”

She was apprehended and charged with homicide by child abuse. 48-year-old Christopher Stewart has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child.
