On Sunday, when Mississippi police officer Laquandia Cooley arrived to the scene of a shooting around 2 a.m., she saw that the deceased victim was her son.
“We initially responded to the call, not knowing when I made it over there, the person was going to be my son laying there,” she said.
“As we got there, I look and I was like, ‘This is my son. This is my son.’ So I literally just go into break down you know? Like, why? Who would do this to my son?…It was just, it was too much,” the mother added.
Cooley’s 20-year-old son, Charles Stewart Jr. died from a gunshot wound to the head and was left lying in the street.
No suspect or motive is known in the case, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is handling the matter.
