Prosecutors in the case against Kyle Rittenhouse, 18, (who allegedly shot three protestors during several confrontations at two locations in Kenosha Washington, resulting in two people left dead, that happened back in August of 2020) are asking for his bond conditions to be amended.
He is currently facing homicide charges in the death of those two individuals. They are asking for the modifications to for Rittenhouse to be prohibited from possessing or consuming alcohol or being in any establishment that serves it; be prohibited from making any public display of any “white power” or “white supremacy” signs, symbols, or hand gestures; and not have any contact with any known militia members or members of any violent white power/white supremacist groups including the group identified as the “Proud Boys.”
According to court documents filed Thursday, Mark Richards, the attorney representing Rittenhouse, stated his client does not object to the modified bond conditions proposed.
Furthermore, his attorney went on to mention. “As Mr. Rittenhouse has no membership, affiliation, or affinity for any of the identified groups, the defense has no objection to a bond modification prohibiting Kyle Rittenhouse from having any knowing contact with any known hate groups or their members.”
He also did not object to a bond condition prohibiting the possession or consumption of alcohol.
The now 18-year-old is out on a $2 million bail after being arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in Kenosha. Rittenhouse is alleged to have been in the midst of the protests that had broken out in Wisconsin city over the police shooting of Jacob Blake, also firing at other protesters in the area.
There have been reports that Rittenhouse had been seen with other individuals putting up hand signals notating the ‘OK’ sign, which has been known as the sign of “White Power” by other known white supremacist groups.
Court documents also state that Rittenhouse turned 18 this month and still lives in the state of Illinois and mentioned, “Under Illinois law, it is a Class A Misdemeanor for anyone under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol in a public place.”
The reason for the banning of being around the “Proud Boys”, (a known white supremacist group) the prosecutor requested, is because the prosecutor believes that Rittenhouse may be under witness intimidation.
Rittenhouse has pleaded not guilty to the charges that are currently against him. His attorney has maintained his innocence as he states his client was acting in self-defense, and was in fear for his life. His attorney introduced screenshots of surveillance video to the courts that showed his client acted in self defense while being chased by a gun-toting protester. Rittenhouse appeared to have been hit with a skateboard as he was laying on the ground.
The victims who were killed were Anthony M. Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum. Another victim by the name of Gaige Grosskreutz was wounded.
