Teen Accused of Killing 4 Year Old Cash Gernon Found Incompetent To Stand Trial

A Dallas County Judge has ruled the suspect accused of killing 4 year old Cash Gernon last year as incompetent to stand trial.

Officers were called to the 7500 block of Saddleridge on May 15 when a passerby saw cash’s deceased body.

After reviewing neighborhood surveillance footage they saw Darriynn Brown,19. carrying the child outside the home hours before the murder.

Brown was initially arrested on kidnapping charges. On May 28, a Medical Examiner ruled Cash’s death a homicide.

Brown’s charges were upgraded to capital murder on June 9 after clothes and shoes tested positive for Cash’s blood.

Although no motive for the killing has ever been stated. Brown’s defense team says this is the verdict they were hoping for so their client could get the proper help.

The prosecution team also hired their own medical expert who also concluded Brown is incompetent to stand trial.

Brown has has been placed on a waiting list to be transferred to a facility in Vernon to receive the proper help.
