On Wednesday, around 2:30 p.m., officers with the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force tried to stop a vehicle close to the 4200 block of North Ben Jordan Street in the City of Victoria, Texas.
On Thursday, authorities identified a 28-year-old man, JD Javier Lane, of Victoria County, as a person who was fatally shot by a U.S. Marshals Service official during the traffic stop. Lane was said to be unarmed.
Mona Gallegos, Lane’s mother, said, “I’m so lost for my baby. The law is supposed to protect us.”
Lane is survived by his 8-year-old son and a baby that is on the way.
Since the occurrence, a community advocate, Anna Harris, has begun a Facebook group named, “Justice For JD Lane.” Over 700 people are now demanding an investigation into Lane’s death.
A candlelight vigil was held for Lane, on Saturday, in the spot where he was killed.
