The brother of ex-NFL cornerback Aqib Talib, Yaqub Talib, has taken a plea deal in a 2022 murder case. This is when he is said to have shot and killed a football coach during a game.

In September 2022, Yaqub Talib was indicted for a murder offense by a Dallas County jury. Authorities had said that he shot and killed Michael Hickmon, 43, as a youth football game took place in Lancaster on Aug. 13, 2022.

After a plea deal was accepted on Thursday before his trial, it was determined that Talib will serve 37 years in prison.

On Aug. 7, formal sentencing will take place, as well as, victim impact statements.

Authorities reported that the shooting happened after two coaches, from opposite sides, got into fight during a game, and gunshots rang out.

Hickmon was hit by gunfire and was transported to a medical facility where he succumbed to his wounds.

Yaqub Talib was identified as the assailant who left the scene after the incident and surrendered to authorities two days later.

Talib has a criminal history in Dallas and Collin counties. This includes charges of drug possession, unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, abandoning a child/negligence, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and assault.
