In 2010 16-year-old Corey Webb ran away to visit his girlfriend who had moved to Tyler Texas. He took a Greyhound bus, but his family was unaware. His family reported him missing and his mother asked Tyler police to pick him up once he made it to Tyler.

Corey was detained and brought to a Juvenile detention center until his parents arrived to pick him up. While attempting to escape from the detention center Webb was found to have a gun in the backpack he traveled with, according to a juvenile probation officer, Corey fired the weapon in his direction.

Webb pleaded guilty to carrying a gun into the Smith County Juvenile Center

Judge Kerry Russell sentenced Corey Webb to 50 years in prison. Webb’s family believes the surveillance footage of the incident was tampered with and did not show the shooting the way it was reported.

“The pictures are jumping around, nothing is in sequence…this thing was jumping around and from my naked eye I knew someone had tampered with the evidence,” said Gloria Webb, Corey Webb’s grandmother.

District Attorney Matt Bingham said his office had a computer forensics expert review the video, and they don’t believe it was altered.

  1. “Oh hes a good boy” maybe try better parenting. No one in my entire exteded family has ever gone to prison. Stop making excuses for this punk.

    1. Teens are teens and somebody in your family has been to jail they just aint telling you the hypocrite and another you can be the best parents in the world and ur kids will still do stupid sh

    2. Since he was being “detained” (held up, hold, kept in custody, withheld) to the point where he attempted to escape from a juvenile center, Whose responsibility was it to check his backpack for weapons, etc? Is this his first offence? 50 years?

      1. 50 years. In Texas. For having a gun. Or is it really about not being white.
Think about where this started…he ran away…that is the “crime” he was detained for. Having a gun in Texas is almost required by law. The sentence is ridiculous and I side with the parents.

  2. That’s just plain ridiculousness. An actual murderer get less time than that.
But we not gonna pretend that we all don’t know what the real reason is for being so harsh was for, right….

    1. The 50 yrs. is excessive and again because he’s a black kid, that judge is making an example out of this case. He did not kill anyone. He pointed the gun and shot it. They give murderers way less time for killing someone. I would most definitely appeal and fight for my baby. He’s a child.

  3. This evil sentence should be found to be excessive, illegal, and overturned. Not even hoarding Federal documents will get near this much time in prison. Mass murderers get less time than this.

  4. He probably wasn’t a good kid but 50 yrs is quite extensive and the footage probably was altered
