18-Year-Old Rescued Baby When She Witnessed Three People Die After Being Electrocuted

18-year-old Majiah Washington saw a flash outside her residence this week in Portland, Oregon. This was after a dangerous storm has covered the city with ice.

When Washington looked through her window, she witnessed a red SUV with a downed power line on it, and a couple had been placing their baby in the car.

The woman had yelled to her boyfriend to take the baby to safety. He then retrieved the child and started to walk up the slippery driveway. However, before he could get all the way up, he slid back down. His foot then came in contact with a live wire. Washington then saw ‘a little fire and a little smoke.’

The mother, who was six months pregnant, attempted to reach the baby. However, she slipped, too, and was electrocuted. Her 15-year-old brother was electrocuted, as well, when he came out to assist.

Washington had been on the phone with a dispatcher when she observed the baby, lying on his father, moving his head. The 9-month-old was still alive. Washington then decided to help after already seeing three people shocked to death.

She crouched down very low so that she wouldn’t slip into the wire. When she retrieved the baby, she came in contact with the father’s body, but she wasn’t shocked.

Now, the Portland Fire and Rescue are praising Washington for her heroic efforts although they don’t understand how she and the baby weren’t electrocuted. The baby was examined at a medical facility and is doing well.

Washington’s neighbor confirmed that his 21-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son had been killed.
