7-year-old Sloan Mattingly has been identified as the little girl who fell into a sand hole with her brother and got trapped on Tuesday at a beach in Lauderdale-by-the-sea in Florida.
Sloan died and her 9-year-old brother, Maddox, was critically injured.
At about 3:16 p.m., deputies with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and paramedics arrived to the 4400 block of El Mar Drive.
Investigators say that the children and their parents were on vacation from Indiana, and the children had been digging a hole in the sand when they got trapped.
The two children were transported to a medical facility in critical condition.
An investigation is on-going.
