72 Year Old Homeowner Charged With Murder After Killing Suspect And Going Back To Bed

A homeowner has been charged with murder after he shot and killed an alleged robbery suspect in his backyard Thursday and then went back to bed.
According to reports officers responded to a burglary call on the 5400 block of Philip Avenue on September 26 and when they arrived they found a male laying in the backyard face down with a gunshot wound to the back of his neck.
First responders pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The homeowner James Michael Meyer,72 was taken in for interview and told authorities that he heard someone in his backyard so he grabbed his handgun and yelled for the person to leave and not take anymore steps towards his home but he claims the suspect began walking towards him so he opened fire.
He also said he saw the victim take off running in the opposite direction so he went back inside the house and went to sleep.
He claims he did not know he shot anyone until the morning when he saw a black bag and a man laying on the ground.
His wife then contacted an attorney for advise before calling police to the scene.
Meyer was later arrested and charged with murder.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released.
