‘A Different World,’ Cast Begins Reunion Tour, Promoting HBCUs

This week, the cast of the 80s hit show ‘A Different World,’ came together to begin a 10-city HBCU tour that started in Atlanta.

On Thursday, February 29, the tour kicked off at the Atlanta University Center (AUC) where Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Morris Brown College are located.

Cast members Darryl M. Bell (Ronald ‘Ron,’ Johnson), Charnele Brown (Kimberly ‘Kim’ Reese), and Jasmine Guy (Whitley Marion Gilbert Wayne) are on the tour. Kareem Hardison (Dwayne Cleophus Wayne), Dawnn Lewis (Jaleesa Vinson Taylor), Cree Summer ( Winifred ‘Freddie,’ Brooks), Glynn Turman (Col. Bradford ‘Brad,’ Taylor), and Sinbad (Walter Oakes), are on the tour, as well.

The reunion will have panels and other activities with the cast and producers, Susan Fales and the well-known Debbie Allen.

Real experiences is what the show was based off of which followed students at Hillman College, a fictional historically black college in Virginia.

The goal of the tour is to promote enrollment for HBCUs throughout the nation, motivating more students to select an HBCU as their college of choice.
