Brittney Griner’s Wife Wants The WNBA Star Home As She Is Being Detained In Russia

In February, Brittney Griner was detained on drug charges in Russia at Moscow’s airport.

The 31-year-old plays for a Russian team during the off-season. Previously, she had won the WNBA championship in 2014 with the Phoenix Mercury.

Russian authorities say that cannabis oil vape cartridges were discovered in Griner’s suitcase at the airport.

As she has been held over three weeks now, her wife has said that she is in “one of the weakest moments of my life.”

“Thank you to everyone who reached out to me, regarding my wife’s safe return from Russia. Your prayers and support are greatly appreciated,” Cherelle Griner posted on Instagram.

“I love my wife wholeheartedly, so this message comes during one of the weakest moments of my life. I understand that many of you have grown to love BG over the years and have concerns and want details. Please honor our privacy as we continue to work on getting my wife safely home,” she added.

If convicted of drug smuggling, Griner could receive five to ten years in a Russian prison.

Reports from Russian media indicated that Griner was detained for the cannabis oil as a “preventative measure.”

It isn’t known if she was arrested, and information related to her detention is still unknown.
