On March 6, court documents released showed what occurred during an attack on a Milwaukee County Jail Correctional sergeant that occurred on Tuesday, March 5.
The Correctional sergeant was stabbed at least four times and suffered a punctured lung.
Ronell J. Hart has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide. He was lying in wait on Tuesday morning and has had a history of mental illness. Last month, the suspect filed a prisoner civil rights lawsuit in federal court against Milwaukee County and others.
He had alleged that the sergeant, and others, had violated his rights when he was placed in jail last year.
The suspect had written a note, complaining that workers at the jail should have looked after him for suicidal and homicidal purposes.
However, he said that didn’t occur.
He also said that the sergeant “walked away with food,” when he was there.
The document also has a court-ordered mental health evaluation of the suspect. It was shown that he suffers from schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. If he doesn’t take his medication, he may experience a moment of “psychiatric decline and behavioral dysregulation,” the evaluation noted.
On Tuesday, Milwaukee Police officers and an evidence technician were marking, photographing, and gathering evidence at another crime scene.
At about 5:30 a.m., the 51-year-old sergeant came out of a parking garage and saw the ex-inmate. Hart then began stabbing the sergeant without saying anything, the sergeant said.
The sergeant was stabbed in the shoulder, back, neck, and chest. He then ran to the criminal justice facility that was close by to get assistance.
A few hours later, police apprehended the 41-year-old suspect at his residence, right down the street.
