The father of the 3-year-old who died from a gunshot wound to the head, has been arrested in connection with the case.

Jalexus Washington Sr., 27, was charged with tampering with evidence in the shooting of his son, Jalexus Washington Jr.

The mother, Lacravivonne Washington, 26, was charged with three counts of endangerment of a child. She is also facing a tampering with physical evidence charge.

Dallas Police officers responded to a call from Medical City Hospital on March 28. When they arrived, they learned that Jalexus was taken to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the face. He was pronounced deceased some time later upon arrival.

During the investigation, police received conflicting reports from the mother. Initially, she told police that she was involved in a road rage incident that led to the shooting. Police, however, found no evidence of that.

Lacravivonne and her son were seen at a donut shop in the 9400 block of Walnut Street 20 minutes before the fatal shooting.

Police conducted a search and found a gun in the glove compartment of the mother’s car. A second gun was found in the possession of Washington Sr.

Washington Sr. told police that he was at work before rushing to the hospital when he heard the news.

The charge against Washington Sr. stems from the concealment of the firearm in the death of Jalexus.

Police continue to investigate and hope for a breakthrough in the case.
