Former Dallas County District Attorney, Craig Watkins, Passes Away At 56

A former prominent Dallas County District Attorney passed away Tuesday morning.

Russel Wilson, a former DA team member, said that Craig Watkins, 56 passed away in his Dallas home.

In 2006 Watkins won his office in the Democratic Landslide, making him the first Black District Attorney for Dallas County.

Watkins served as a District Attorney from 2007-2015.

He is also known for helping exonerate wrongfully convicted inmates and the first DA to establish a Conviction Integrity Unit.

In 2016 Republican Susan Hawk took Watkins spot in office and he went back to private practice.

“The Watkins family appreciates all the community calls and outreach of support. The family would ask that you respect their privacy at this time.”

No funeral arrangements have been made at this time.

  2. It broke my heart to hear of this. Mr.Watkins help me in Tarrant county involving my seed. . Which he done a damn good job with the case. But, u should have heard the reaction of them DA’s of Tarrant county they wasn’t happy and i was tickled . Cause they tried to play with my seeds life and I wasn’t having it. I will be forever greatful for the things he have done . I send my deepest condolences to his family and u are in my prayers. Fly high Mr.Watkins
