Police in Sumter, South Carolina, are investigating a matter of someone messing with a state South Carolina Department of Transportation road sign. The person did so in order to display a racist comment.
The initial sign was placed on South Pike Street near a bypass to let drivers know about the upcoming road construction.
However, someone altered the sign to show a racial slur, and authorities were contacted.
The racial slur that read, “Honk If You Hate N——,” was then taken down.
“We will investigate this to the fullest…it’s a scar on this city and its residents. That is no way indicative of the community where we work and live,” Chief Russell Roark stated.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.
