Houston Rapper Big Pokey, whose real name is Milton Powell, collapsed while performing onstage this past weekend. He was later declared deceased.
A viral video depicts Pokey standing onstage, holding a microphone, and engaging with a DJ at a bar in Beaumont, Texas, on Saturday evening.
BP was heard taking an extensive breath into the microphone and then took a hard fall backwards, going unconscious.
As individuals began to see that this was a serious matter, a nurse in the crowd rendered first aid until first responders arrived on scene. Pokey was then transported to a medical facility where he died.
His cause of death isn’t known at this time.
Big Pokey was very popular around the city of Houston as he started in the industry by working with DJ Screw. He also assisted in starting the chopped-and-screwed style that became well-known in the South. He was thought to be a local star.
Big Pokey was 45.
