Information Eliminated From Dallas’ Public Portal

Due to privacy issues, Dallas’ Office Of Data Analytics and Business Intelligence (DBI) has eliminated some information. This encompasses many names, phone numbers, and addresses from the Open Data Portal. Much of this data comes from DPD’s crime reports and 9-1-1 calls.

On Monday, officials also discussed eliminating all information and delaying publishing information on active police calls by at least 24 hours.

“Hopefully it would encourage people to make reports about something that has happened or speak without concern,” said the Director of the Office of (DBI).

The agency thinks that not disclosing certain details would protect the underage and people who have experienced sexual violence.

However, activists for social justice have a concern. They believe that limiting this data makes it difficult for citizens to know what’s going on in their neighborhood.

People are still able to receive information on previous or recent police offense reports. But, a public records request must be submitted.
