Reports have indicated that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts assisted a family in his hometown. Hurts paid for the funeral expenses of Texas high school football player Jarvon Coles.

18-year-old Coles was fatally shot at a party in Humble, Texas, close to Houston, on March 9.

Coles had been a strong safety and an outside linebacker for the North Shore Senior High School football team. They have a long record in Houston football against where Hurts attended, Channelview High School.

Hurts was the first Channelview quarterback to beat North Shore back in 2014. He did so with a Hail Mary pass as there was no time remaining on the clock. That pass was caught for a touchdown, resulting in a 49-48 victory.

Authorities in Harris County say that Coles was discovered with a gunshot injury, close to a large residence that had been rented out through an Airbnb

There were many teenagers and young adults at the location, and the party possibly could have been promoted on social media, too.

Officials say that one or two shooters opened fire toward the party from down the street and left in a car.

Hurts has not publicly commented about paying for Coles’s funeral expenses.
