A lawsuit has been filed after a baby was said to have been decapitated during delivery on July 9, in Clayton County, Georgia.

Authorities are now investigating.

Documents note that at about 10 a.m., the baby’s mother and father, Jessica Ross, 20, and Treveon Taylor, Sr., 21, went to the emergency room. This was at Prime Healthcare Services, Inc. d/b/a Southern Regional Medical Center.

There, Ross was under the care of Dr. Tracey St. Julian. She is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist was has worked as such since 2005.

At close to 8:40 p.m., Ross had been told to push after being completely dilated.

The baby couldn’t continue to descend because of shoulder dystocia while being delivered vaginally. Dr. Tracey St. Julian, M.D., is accused of persistently trying to deliver the baby. She used different techniques, like applying traction to the baby’s head, the complaint notes.

At about 11:49 p.m., the doctor allegedly tried to perform a STAT Cesarean section. This was done as the fetal monitor had stopped picking up the heartbeat. At 12:11 a.m., the baby’s legs and chest were delivered via the Cesarean. However, the head was delivered vaginally.

As a press conference took place on Wednesday, the couple’s lawyer stated that the Southern Regional staff attempted to cover up the decapitation. They tried to get the couple to not get an autopsy. They then suggested that the couple have their son cremated. To matters worse, they wrapped and held the baby boy’s body up to make it seem as though the head was still on the body.

Lawsuit documents note that St. Julian refused the surgical procedure at first and didn’t look for assistance. On the contrary, she put a excessive amount of force on the baby’s head and neck to attempt to deliver.

The suit claims gross negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The couple is looking for unspecified punitive damages.
