A parolee who claimed he was having an “out-of-body experience” when he fatally attacked his mother with a hammer was sentenced to 50 years.

Lonnie Paul Bishop, 34, pleaded guilty on Thursday to murder in the death of his mother, Yun Neang Biship, 57.

Police found Yun badly beaten at the residence she shared with her son in Waco.

When police arrived to the shared residence of the mother and son, they found Yun badly beaten. Bishop was also found holding a phone and a bloody hatchet in each hand.

Upon their arrival, Bishop- who was drenched in blood- confessed to killing his mother.

Psychologist Lee Carter was ordered to evaluate Bishop to determine if he was sane at the time of the offense. He would also say whether Bishop is competent to stand trial or not.

The results of the evaluation were that Bishop was sane and competent. The psychologist also diagnosed him with antisocial personality disorder, and major depressive disorder. Bishop also showed signs of PTSD after suffering a traumatic childhood at the hands of alcoholic, abusive parents.

When discussing the incident, Bishop told Carter, “It was like an out-of-body experience,” “That day it happened, I couldn’t even say I was acting like myself.”

Bishop has a prior felony conviction for aggravated assault which he received after hitting the mother of his children on the head with a gun.
