Mother And Father Of Steelers Quarterback, Dwayne Haskins, Didn’t Attend His Funeral
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins, 24, was fatally hit on a Florida expressway in early April.
On Friday, his parents didn’t attend his funeral. They say that they haven’t met their son’s widow. They decided that it wasn’t the right time to meet her.
“We have never met or spoken to the wife. We didn’t want our son’s funeral service to be the place we met her for the first time,” expressed Dwayne Sr. and Tamara Haskins. They were referencing their son’s wife, Kalabrya Gondrezick-Haskins.
On Saturday, relatives of Haskins will attend a memorial service in New Jersey and another in Maryland, on Sunday morning.
Gondrezick-Haskins was joined by others at the funeral. This includes Steeler linebacker Ryan Shazier, and a teammate from Ohio State. Also in attendance were Steelers President Art Rooney II, Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and more.
Gondrezick-Haskins was observed wearing all black, crying at Haskins’s casket.
In March 2021, the couple had gotten married in Las Vegas, his widow has said. In July, Gondrezick-Haskins was apprehended after an incident with her husband. Haskins is said to have lost a tooth during the altercation and had experienced many injuries.
The wife had been facing battery and domestic violence resulting in bodily harm charges. Later, the charges were dismissed. After that, the two seemingly resolved their issues. They then renewed their vows.
The widow stated that her husband called her the night he died. He said that he was stranded on a Florida Highway after running out of gas. He was going to cross over the highway and told his wife he would call her back. Gondrezick-Haskins contacted authorities after being worried about him.
She never received a call back from Haskins.
