Dallas City Council member Adam Bazaldua created a proposal that would make it mandatory for strips clubs in Dallas to close at 2 a.m. The goal is to prevent murders, sex and drug trafficking and assaults that stem from these types of businesses.
Most arrests that have been made close to sexually oriented businesses in Dallas this year have happened after 2 a.m.
Three years ago, local leaders attempted to close down XTC Cabaret on Stemmons Freeway. This was after a 34 year-old male was killed in the early morning hours, and a history of violence in the parking lot. The club stayed open, and in March of this year, a 32 year-old man was fatally shot at 3:15 a.m.
Because of that, a Northwest “club” task force was formed in March. Since then, 101 felony charges, 149 misdemeanor charges, 1,036 citations, and 1,454 traffic stops have occurred.
Even with this information, the Dallas City Council pushed the topic back for another six months so that another “task force” can do more research. This has local leaders concerned that this ordinance will never be put into effect.
