Two Women Arrested After Transporting Dead Man To Bank To Withdraw Funds

Two Ohio women have been arrested and charged with abusing a corpse after propping their dead roommate up in a vehicle to go withdraw money from his financial institution, authorities say.

55-year-old Loreen B. Feralo and 63-year-old Karen Kashbohm discovered the man deceased on Monday. They then transported his body to a bank where they had previously gone with him before.

With another unidentified person assisting them, the roommates carried the body to the front seat of the deceased man’s vehicle, so bank employees could see and traveled to the known bank branch to take out an undisclosed amount of funds.

Before this incident, the two had withdrawn money from the man’s account with him present and with his consent. The suspects used the bank’s drive-thru window to make the transaction with a teller.

Authorities were alerted when the pair dropped the body off at a medical center after the money was taken out of the bank. They then left quickly, not giving the hospital any information about the man.

One of the women contacted the hospital later and gave the man’s story. He was identified as 80-year-old Douglas Layman.

Authorities say that officers went to Layman’s residence where the roommates disclosed information about the bank trip.

The roommates have appeared in court, and Kasbohm’s bond was placed at $5,000 as Feralo was ordered to appear for arraignment next week.

More charges are pending.
