Officer David Herrera, an off-duty Rowlett, Texas, police officer, has been charged with driving while intoxicated following a wreck that sent him and another driver to the hospital.

The crash occurred on Sunday morning, at about 5, at Carmack and Main St. in Mesquite.

Officials say that Herrera ran through a stop sign, and his car collided with another car. After that, his vehicle hit an electric pole, causing it to fall over.

Officer Herrera was treated at the scene and then released and charged. The other driver’s condition isn’t known.

Herrera, who has been with the Rowlett Police Department since 2022, has now been placed on paid administrative leave pending the on-going investigation.

  1. This incident makes absolutely no sense. This man is a sworn Police Officer, so there’s no excuse for his actions. He can’t say that he didn’t know what he did was wrong.
