A teenager from north Houston went missing while swimming at Surfside Beach on Saturday.
17-year-old Henry Murillo Romero was at the beach with his family for the last weekend of spring break.
While out in the water, which had waves reaching 5 feet and riptides, the teen began to panic. His sister and one of the friends attempted to rescue him amidst his cries for help, but the rough water made it challenging to reach him.
Romero never resurfaced or came back to shore, prompting a search by Texas Equusearch and other parties.
Although authorities have classified the search as a “recovery effort,” his mother remains hopeful for his safe return.
The family is staying close to Surfside, awaiting any news of his whereabouts.
